Fantastic Plastic Machine -- Bachelor Pad

"CAN YOU DIG IT, BABY?!"

Of course, it's the International Man of Mystery himself, Austin Powers. His theme song will always be "Soul Bossa Nova"(or for those Canadians over 35 years of age....the theme song from the game show "Definition") by Quincy Jones. But I think this song by Shibuya-kei DJ/producer, Fantastic Plastic Machine can make for an ideal alternate theme for Powers...or his loft of shagedelic babes.

And what an appropriate title, too. With "Bachelor Pad", I can just imagine a Friday midnight show of the same title, hosted by the foppy secret agent himself as the song is playing in the background. Everybody would be shimmying like crazy, including this author. Even before the French kitten starts her "pa-pa-pa"-ing, that guitar sets that amazing beat.

"Bachelor Pad" came out in 1997 as a track on FPM's debut album, "The Fantastic Plastic Machine" before it got picked up for the soundtrack of the 2nd Austin Powers movie, "The Spy Who Shagged Me" in 1999.

Yes, a double-decker bus in Shibuya.
