Yu Hayami/Meiko Nakahara -- Passion

I saw Yu Hayami(早見優) performing her 14th single, "Passion" on the Kohaku Utagassen. Unlike her sunny, bippity-boppity breakthrough hit, "Natsu Iro no Nancy"(夏色のナンシー) from a few years back, Hayami went for a more disco-Anri sound with this song, written and composed by Meiko Nakahara(中原めいこ). And on that year's Kohaku, she even eschewed the cute aidoru clothes for something that reminded me more of what Janet Jackson would wear a few years later for "Rhythm Nation".

The song was released in August 1985 but wouldn't end up in the Top 100 of the 1985 Oricon charts.

Here is Nakahara's own take on the song.
