And so for the next few days, I'll be devoting the blog to some Summer songs beginning with this classic from 1987. The band TUBE cemented its reputation as THE Summer band with "Summer Dream", about a year after the release of "Season in the Sun". Written and composed by two singers, Tomoko Aran and Tetsuro Oda（亜蘭知子・織田哲郎）, the song evokes all that is good about sun worshipping. After its release in April, it peaked at No. 3 on the Oricon weeklies. It also came out a month later as the eponymous track on the album, "Summer Dream" which peaked at No. 2 on the album charts and ended up becoming the 21st-ranked album of the year.
It was a favourite in the karaoke bar....even some of our non-Japanese-speaking buddies wanted to sing along with the lyrics.
